We’ve been getting a ton of bathroom cleaning questions lately, so we figured it’s time to simplify things. These are the top 11 spots often always missed and really shouldn’t be. Were you hoping to take your bathroom cleaning to the next level, or need a starting push? START HERE.
Have questions or need help figuring out what to use where? Drop a comment below. We’ll chime in, and so will others in the know. Let’s make cleaning less confusing, together.

1️⃣ Linens & Curtains 🚿
Mold and soap scum love to hang out here. Wash your shower curtains and linens regularly, or freshen them up with a simple vinegar soak to keep them smelling and looking clean.
2️⃣ Behind and around the Toilet 🦠🚽
This frequently overlooked area is a magnet for dust, hair, grime, and hidden buildup. Fine urine mist from flush-back and splatter collects here regularly but is almost always forgotten. While most mops can’t reach the narrow gap between the toilet and the wall, dust, dead skin, urine, and hair certainly do.
To clean this spot effectively, use a long bottle brush or a vacuum crevice tool. Even better: lay down a towel and get on your hands and knees once a month for a deep, thorough scrub. Also, don’t neglect the bolt caps at the base of the toilet. Though rarely removed, underneath them lurks rust, urine salt deposits, and black grime that quietly accumulates over time.

3️⃣ Faucets & Sink Drains🚰
Mineral deposits can build up on faucets, and drains can get clogged with buildup. Wipe down faucets regularly and use a natural drain cleaner—like vinegar and baking soda—to keep things flowing smoothly.
4️⃣ Toothbrush Holder 🪥
This little holder can collect bacteria and toothpaste residue. Clean it often with soap and water or a disinfectant to keep germs at bay.
5️⃣ Cabinet & Drawer Interiors 🪞
Dust, spills, and stray toiletries sneak in here. Take time every now and then to empty them out and wipe the insides clean.
6️⃣ Light Fixtures & Bulbs 💡
Dust and moisture can dull your bathroom lighting. Wipe down fixtures and bulbs carefully to brighten up your space.
7️⃣ Ventilation Fans 🫁
Dust buildup on fans reduces their efficiency and can cause musty smells. Clean or replace the covers and gently wipe down the fan blades regularly.
8️⃣ Under the Sink 🧽
This area can get messy with spills and clutter. Keep it organized and wipe down surfaces to avoid hidden dirt and odors.
9️⃣ Towel Racks & Hooks 🧺
These spots collect dust and moisture over time. Wipe them regularly to prevent mold and keep them looking fresh.
🔟 Floor Grout 🪣
Grout lines get dirty and discolored easily. Use a grout cleaner or a paste made from baking soda and water to scrub them bright again, giving your floors a fresh new look.
1️⃣1️⃣ The Toilet Plunger and Its Holder 🪠
The plunger and its holder can quickly become a breeding ground for bacteria, collecting dirty water, residue, and germs after each use.
👉 After every use, rinse the plunger thoroughly, disinfect both the plunger and the holder, and allow them to dry completely before putting them away. A quick clean now prevents a nasty buildup later.
⚠️ DISCLAIMER: Cleaner vs. Disinfectant ⛔️
Please remember: multi-purpose cleaners and disinfectants are not the same. Cleaners remove dirt and grime, while disinfectants are made to kill bacteria and viruses on clean surfaces. Always clean first, then disinfect with an EPA-approved or natural disinfectant, allowing proper dwell time (usually 3–10 minutes) for it to work effectively.

Recommended Multi-Purpose Cleaners:
Never mix cleaning products like vinegar and bleach, as it can create toxic fumes. Always follow label instructions, test products on small areas, and ensure good airflow while cleaning.
